In the same week, Mozilla announces plans to halt Firefox support for Mac 10.4 (Tiger) in their next version of the popular browser and Adobe promises faster Flash on Mac.
We are a creative agency and as you can imagine, the number of Macs at the fishbowl easily outnumber PCs on any given day. In fact, I am the only day-to-day user of a PC. We tend to hold on to our Macs for many years and buying a new one will punch a whole in any IT budget. Without getting into boring technical details, depending on when the Mac was built, there are certain chips that will not work with the latest Mac operating system. Therefore Firefox fans with these older chips will be forced to buy a new computer to keep using their favorite Web browser or risk using depreciated/legacy software. I hate the idea of impeding technology but in this case I hope Mozilla will reconsider as we love developing and designing for Firefox and want to take advantage of the latest browsers on as many platforms as possible.

On the Flip side it is good to hear that Adobe has heard its critics and is working to speed up Flash on the Mac. Flash is very resource intensive program and its performance varies greatly from one machine to another. The more even the playing field the easier it is for us to develop applications that provide the same experience to each user regardless of what platform they are on.
